An untapped source of amorphous SiO2, industrially generated Indian biomass ash (SA)—90% amorphous, with composition of ~60% SiO2 and ~20% unburnt carbon—can be used to produce cementitious and alkali-activated binders. This study reports dissolution of amorphous Si from SA in 0.5 mol/L and 1 mol/L aqueous NaOH, with and without added Ca(OH)2, at SA:Ca(OH)2 wt% ratios of 100:0, 87.5:12.5, and 82.5:17.5. Monitoring of elemental dissolution and subsequent/simultaneous product uptake by ICP-OES offers an effective process for evaluating utility of industrial wastes in binder-based systems. After 28 days in solution, up to 68% of total Si is dissolved from SA in 1 mol/L NaOH, with values as much as 38% lower in the presence of Ca(OH)2, due to the formation of tobermorite-like C-S-H. FTIR, 29Si MAS-NMR, and XRD are used to characterize solid reaction products and observe reaction progress. Product chemistries calculated from ICP-OES results and verified by selective dissolution in EDTA/NaOH—namely, Ca/Si of 0.6-1 and Na adsorption of 1-2 mmol/g—are found to be consistent with those indicated by aforementioned techniques. This indicates the efficacy of ICP-OES in estimating product chemistry via such a methodology.  相似文献

Over the last decade the technological advances observed in solar collector materials, namely better spectrally selective absorber coatings and ultra clear glass covers, contribute to performance improvements and translate into higher operational temperature ranges with higher efficiency values.While the use of Evacuated Tube Collectors (ETCs) is becoming widespread in the thermal conversion of solar energy, non-evacuated solar collectors still hold advantages at manufacturing, reliability and/or cost levels, making them interesting and competitive for a large range of applications, in particularly, in temperature ranges up to 80 °C. However, these advantages have not prevented the major drawback of these collectors when compared to ETCs: thermal losses due to internal convection which prevent their general use in the range of operating temperatures up to 150 °C.Insulation, double glazing or selective coatings can be used in non-evacuated collectors to reduce heat losses. To prevent internal convection losses in these solar collectors, different control strategies have been studied, such as the adoption of different inert gases within the collector cavity, physical barriers reducing air flow velocities over the absorber or cover surfaces or the use of concentration.In the present article, an assessment of adopting such internal convection control strategies in a CPC collector is presented. Each of the presented strategies is assessed in terms of the resulting collector optical and thermal characterization parameters and yearly collector yield. For this purpose, an integrated tool allowing the design, optical and thermal characterization of CPC collectors was developed. The results obtained provide valuable guidelines for anyone wishing to implement any of these strategies in a new collector design.  相似文献

Statistical evaluation of biclustering solutions is essential to guarantee the absence of spurious relations and to validate the high number of scientific statements inferred from unsupervised data analysis without a proper statistical ground. Most biclustering methods rely on merit functions to discover biclusters with specific homogeneity criteria. However, strong homogeneity does not guarantee the statistical significance of biclustering solutions. Furthermore, although some biclustering methods test the statistical significance of specific types of biclusters, there are no methods to assess the significance of flexible biclustering models. This work proposes a method to evaluate the statistical significance of biclustering solutions. It integrates state-of-the-art statistical views on the significance of local patterns and extends them with new principles to assess the significance of biclusters with additive, multiplicative, symmetric, order-preserving and plaid coherencies. The proposed statistical tests provide the unprecedented possibility to minimize the number of false positive biclusters without incurring on false negatives, and to compare state-of-the-art biclustering algorithms according to the statistical significance of their outputs. Results on synthetic and real data support the soundness and relevance of the proposed contributions, and stress the need to combine significance and homogeneity criteria to guide the search for biclusters.  相似文献

This research was focused on the production of polyunsaturated fatty acid concentrates from a farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) by‐product (i.e. belly muscle). The effect of different process variables (urea/fatty acids (FA) contents ratio, crystallisation time and temperature and stirring speed of the urea/FA mixture) on the lipid oxidation development during the urea complexation process was investigated. For this purpose, an experimental design (26 runs) following the response‐surface methodology was developed. As a result, peroxide value and TOTOX index showed to be dependent on the crystallisation time and temperature and the urea/FA ratio, while no influence of the crystallisation stirring speed was detected on both indices; additionally, polyene index was affected by the urea/FA ratio and its interaction with the crystallisation time. An optimised desirability score near 1.0 was attained provided values of 2.8 °C, 3.05 h and 3.57 were applied for crystallisation temperature, crystallisation time and urea/FA ratio, respectively.  相似文献

Hydrolysates with antioxidant and antihypertensive activities were obtained from sarcoplasmic proteins of canned sardine by-product and proteases extracted from Brewer’s spent yeast. Using response surface methodology, hydrolysis time and temperature were selected to achieve the maximum bioactivity. Hydrolysates produced using the substrate/enzyme ratio 1:0.27 (mg/U), 7 h and 50ºC, presenting an angiotensin I-converting enzyme-inhibitory activity of 164 µg protein/mL and an antioxidant activity of 293 μM TE/mL. Experimental results agreed with predicted values within a 95% confidence interval. Within this work the simultaneous valorisation of two agro-industrial by-products was successfully achieved.  相似文献

The paper describes a study to characterize intentional human dynamic loads (vandal loads) and their induced effects on a footbridge. A numerical model to characterize the dynamic behavior of the footbridge has been developed, is experimentally validated, and is used to numerically simulate the response induced by groups of pedestrians synchronized at critical bridge frequencies. The vandal load associated with a single pedestrian is characterized and compared with definitions in the literature. The response is then calculated considering the measured load and compared with the measured response to the excitation induced by a single pedestrian or a group with varying dimensions. The definition of a general load model for vandal excitation, including a tentative definition for synchronization is discussed.  相似文献

Gymnosporia arenicola Jordaan (Celastraceae) is a shrub or small tree, which naturally occurs in coastal sand dunes of Southern Mozambique and South Africa. Its dried leaf is often used in traditional medicine for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Hereby, we present results of studies carried out according to the pharmacopoeia standards for the identification of herbal drugs, in the whole, fragmented, and powdered plant material. These results were complemented with scanning electron microscopy and histochemical techniques. The leaf microscopic analysis revealed a typical dorsiventral mesophyll with a corresponding spongy parenchyma–palisade parenchyma ratio of 0.60, anomocytic and paracytic stomata, papillate cells with a diameter of 4.00 ± 0.40 µm, multicellular uniseriate nonglandular trichomes with a length of 27.00 ± 4.10 µm and cristalliferous idioblasts containing calcium oxalate cluster crystals with a diameter of 23.04 ± 5.84 µm. The present findings demonstrate that the G. arenicola leaf has both nonglandular trichomes and hypoderm, features not previously described in the corresponding botanical section (Gymnosporia sect. Buxifoliae Jordaan). The establishment of these new botanical markers for the identification of G. arenicola leaf is essential for quality, safety and efficacy reasons. Microsc. Res. The properties of poly(alkylthiophenes) in solution are found to have a profound impact on the self assembly process and thus the microstructural and electrical properties of the resultant thin films. Ordered supramolecular precursors can be formed in regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) solutions through the application of low intensity ultrasound. These precursors survive the casting process, resulting in a dramatic increase in the degree of crystallinity of the thin films obtained by spin coating. The crystallinity of the films is tunable, with a continuous evolution of mesoscale structures observed as a function of ultrasonic irradiation time. The photophysical properties of P3HT in solution as well in the solid state suggest that the application of ultrasound leads to a π stacking induced molecular aggregation resulting in field effect mobilities as high as 0.03 cm2 V?1 s?1. A multiphase morphology, comprising short quasi‐ordered and larger, ordered nanofibrils embedded in a disordered amorphous phase is formed as a result of irradiation for at least 1 min. Two distinct regions of charge transport are identified, characterized by an initial sharp increase in the field effect mobility by two orders of magnitude due to an increase in crystallinity up to the percolation limit, followed by a gradual saturation where the mobility becomes independent of the thin film microstructure.  相似文献
